What Summer Festivals are you looking forward to?
Hello folks! my handle is mallyroyal, but you can call me mally. I'm the newest member of the * NEW DAY * team, and I'm honored and excited. hope I do as well as everyone else has.
my diary asks the question "what summer festivals are you looking forward to?" this question is informed by the fact that this past Sunday I went to an African American street festival on South Street in Philly called "ODUNDE." http://odundefestival.org/ it's the oldest such festival in the country, and I've been going since I was a little kid. it begins with a procession to the river, where people throw fruit and other "libations" as gifts to, and recognition of, our ancestors. there are several stages featuring both local and international talent. (this year the final concert on the main stage was Big Daddy Kane.) it's an awesome place to find African sculpture and clothing and pan-African food and music. I recommend it to anyone who's never been.
your turn!
