The rural counties in Virginia are “up in arms” about some of the gun legislation being considered in Richmond. There will be a huge gathering in Richmond Monday, and the governor has declared a state of emergency. The “unite the right” people will be converging on the Capitol. Not clear what will happen. In the long term, many rural counties have declared that they will not abide by gun laws passed in Richmond (which is, of course, illegal).
But some counties might prefer to simply join West Virginia, thus no longer being subject to Virginia gun laws. Based on the original division of the state in the 1860’s, this might even be legal. Discussion at wvmetronews.com/…
The headline of the discussion is “Resolution to add Frederick County, Va. to West Virginia passes Senate”
I have no idea if this would cost VA a Congressional seat in the next census if this happens (it would likely be too late), but it would certainly ensure that Virginia stays very blue for the long haul.
